Common Grade suitable for marine industry
316
Grades 316 and 316L are the most commonly used for marine applications because they contain molybdenum in their composition. The relatively high concentration of 2.0-2.5% in 316 and 316L significantly enhances their resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion caused by saltwater.
304
While 304 stainless steel does not offer the same level of corrosion resistance as 316, it still performs well against corrosive agents. It contains a significant amount of nickel and a higher chromium content compared to 316.
2205
Duplex 2205 is a high-strength stainless steel known for its impressive durability. It comprises 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and approximately 5% nickel. Duplex 2205 features a combination of both austenitic and ferritic phases in its structure, which enhances its overall toughness and resilience.
904l
Another commonly used alloy for marine environment is 904L stainless steel. While it shares many elements with 316L steel, it features higher concentrations of chromium (approximately 19%), nickel (23%), and molybdenum (4%)
